Delaware Ice Hockey

Pitt Weekend Preview

After a nice break spending the holiday with family, the boys are back in Newark ready for one last go on home ice in 2017. The Hens take on the University of Pittsburgh Panthers on December 1st at 7:00 and the 2nd at 3:45.

The last series the team played was against long time rivals, the URI Rams. The Hens lost 4-1 on Friday night in Rhode Island. The played a strong first period, but during the second, the Rams were able to put three goals in the net. The Hens weren’t able to make a comeback, and ended up losing the game. For the second game of the series, Delaware beat Rhode Island 3-1. The team was able to put together a well played three periods. They were able to capitalize on opportunities in front of the Rams’ net. The team looks to continue this momentum into this weekend. Colin Emerich said of the weekend, “Friday we didn’t play the way we wanted to and they scored a few quick goals. We let it take us out of the game. Saturday we played close to a complete game, and got the result we wanted.”

The Panthers’ last played a game against Duquesne University and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Pitt won both of those games, and then went on their Thanksgiving break as well. The Hens will need to be ready to take on this new competition. By staying mentally strong, and playing a full 60 minutes of good Delaware hockey, the team will be able to come out on top.

Player to watch for the week is, senior, Dustin Rabinowitz! Getting injured early in the season, Dustin is back out on the ice, getting into the flow of things again, and playing like he did before his injury. His energy and leadership on and off the ice always adds a bit of excitement wherever the Hens go. So far this season, he has 3 goals and 3 assists. He plays an important role on the forward line, and will continue to be a crucial player for the rest of his last season with the team!

Friday night the team will be sporting different jerseys in honor of their annual Military Night, and all jerseys are available for auction during the game. All game proceeds will go to the United Heroes League, which provides hockey equipment to children in military families. On Saturday, it is the team’s second annual Hockey Holidays game. There will be prizes to be raffled off during both games of the weekend, and winners will be announced during the game on Saturday. Some of the exciting prizes include: Flyers tickets, an Amazon Firestick, a FitBit, and more!
