Delaware Ice Hockey

Ohio University Preview

The Hens hit the road one last time in 2017 to make their way to play Ohio University! On Friday and Saturday night at the Bird Arena, the teams will match up at 7:30. Last season when they two teams played each other, the Bobcats swept the Hens.

This past weekend, Delaware swept the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. On Friday night, the Hens saw goals from Kevin Felice, Cole Zucker, Michael Nisky (2), Dustin Rabinowitz, and Shane Mullin (2). The team took advantage of the opportunities put in front of them to be able to win 7-3. Goalie, Stephen East, did a great job of keeping the Panthers’ scoring to a minimum. On Saturday, the Hens won 3-2, a little bit of a closer margin than the night before. The scorers for the day were Shane Mullin (2) and Michael Redgate. In the net, for his home debut, was Chris Ponticello. Pitt came out strong, hungry for a win, but the Hens played a more defensive game, which ultimately led to getting the W.

Ohio University is coming off a weekend split against Robert Morris University – Illinois. Both games resulted in 4-1 outcomes, one for each team. Ohio is strong and skilled team, currently ranked #3 in the ACHA. In order to be successful this weekend, Dustin Rabinowitz said, “We need to calm the storm at the start of the game because they are a high caliber team.” The Hens must stay mentally strong, and make smart decisions while out on the ice.

Player to watch for this Ohio weekend is defenseman, Ian Anderson! Since his first year with the team, Anderson has been a playmaker on the defensive line. This past weekend Ian had two assists. So far this season, he has one goal and seven assists. One of his greatest assets of his is that he has a defensive mindset. Ian is a consistently strong player, and we look forward to watching him play throughout the rest of the season!

This is the last weekend of games for the Hens in 2017. They will be returning to the Rust the January 5th and 6th to take on the University of Rhode Island. As for this weekend, be sure to keep up with the team while they are on the road. Follow them on all of their social media pages for updates on all things Delaware Hockey!
