The #13 Blue Hens are back and ready for another tough weekend ahead of them! The team is taking on the #25 US Naval Academy on Friday night at 6:00, and in Annapolis, MD at 7:30 on Saturday.
The Hens last played Syracuse University, and split the weekend. They came out on top Friday night, but unfortunately, weren’t able to pull out a clean sweep, and lost the game on Saturday. On Friday the Hens came out with a 5-2 win, with goals scored by Pierce Lamberton (1), Cole Zucker (1), and first goals of the season from Michael Redgate (1), Dustin Rabinowitz (1), Michael Nisky (1). The final score of Saturday’s game was 4-3, Syracuse.  Although Delaware didn’t take the W, they played a good game and put up a tough fight. Saturday, we saw goals from Michael Nisky (1), Mike Zidansek (1) and Shane Mullin (1).
This past weekend, the team played with high energy, made smart plays, and communicated well. They played some really great hockey, and on Friday night they scored four unanswered goals, and kept the momentum going to win the game. However, throughout both games, there were quite a few penalties taken, and in order to be successful this weekend, the team will need to stick to five on five hockey. So the focus for this weekend needs to be cleaning up the defensive zone and minimizing penalties.
This upcoming weekend Delaware will be matching up against Navy. The players that we will need to watch out for are Matt Harrington (12), Jack O’Hear (10), Matt Stamler (17). This past weekend Navy played against Rutgers University and lost both games (3-5). So far this season, Navy’s record is 3-3.
The player to watch this weekend is #22 Michael Nisky, who is a new addition to the team this year. He came out and scored two goals this weekend! He has been a positive force on the ice thus far, and we are hoping to see a lot more out of him this season!
If you can’t make it to the game, be sure to follow our Twitter and Facebook page for updates on the game! With high hopes for a sweep this weekend, the team would love to see all our fans back at the Rust this weekend to show support!
