Blue Hen Ice Hockey is back in action this weekend. The team is taking on Syracuse University at the Fred Rust Arena, Friday, September 30th at 7pm and Saturday, October 1st at 3pm. Friday night will be Police/Firefighter Night at the rink, and on Saturday, it is Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The team will be sporting pink on their jerseys to show support, and they will be auctioned off during the game. All of the proceeds will go to the Team Jen Foundation. This is an organization that provides financial assistance to young women and men who are battling breast cancer in the Mid-Atlantic region. In addition, they also raise awareness about how important it is to be your own advocate. For more information about this organization, visit http://www.teamjeninc.org/.
The Hens last played Robert Morris University, and came out on top with a clean sweep last weekend. On Friday night the Hens came out with a 3-2 win with goals from Chris Mazzella, Greg Jandoli and Cole Zucker. On Saturday with a 6-3 win with goals from John Redgate (2), Andrew Corapi, Chris Mazzella (2), and Max Freeman.
Syracuse also came out strong this past weekend winning both games. They played Temple University on Friday night, and came out with a 10-1 victory. On Saturday, they competed against Villanova University, and came out with 8-2 victory.
The Blue Hens are ready to come back and fight hard this weekend on home ice. They are going to need to make accurate passes, communicate on the ice, and make smart plays in front of Syracuse’s net.
The player to watch for the weekend is junior and assistant-captain, Cole Zucker.
Cole scored the game-winning goal within the last few minutes of last Saturday’s game. Cole is a key player on the offensive line. His technique on the ice is crucial to the success of the offense. We look forward to seeing more from him this weekend and the rest of the season.
If you can’t make it to the game, be sure to follow our Twitter and Facebook page for updates on the game! We hope to see all our fans back at the Rust this weekend!
