Blue Hens Win 4-1 in 1st Annual Military Appreciation Night

The University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens battled the New Jersey Rockets Saturday, November 15 in their first ever military appreciation game at the Fred Rust Arena.

The game was played for an organization called Defending The Blue Line, which ensures that children of the military are afforded every opportunity to play the game of hockey. The day started with honoring some of our very own ROTC members from the University, followed by the honorary puck drop from senior team member Courtney Mocko’s grandfather, Captain Barret Lucas.

The NJ Rockets took the lead early on in the first period, but the Hens rallied back with 4 unanswered goals from senior Katie Smith, freshman Olivia Tarca, graduate student Michelle Burt, and freshman Melissa Macrides.  Overall the Hens represented the University and the logo on the front of their jerseys very well.

Action continues next weekend, November 22 and 23, in back-to-back rival battles against West Chester University.
