Blue Hens Opener Recap 9-22

       The Blue Hens opened the season against Salisbury University in the Fred Rust Arena this past Friday night.   It proved to be a fast paced & physical game. In the 1st period for the Birds tallied an early 3-goal lead while keeping the Gulls off the scoreboard the remainder of the first period. Scoring first for the Blue Hens was  Freshman Steven Palombo for his first college career goal assisted by Chris Mayville, & Corey Calendrillo, 2nd goal was scored by Jake Bernstein assisted by Shane Saladis, and the 3rd goal scored by Marty Coverdale assisted by Jake Bernstein, Shane Saladis.  The second and third period, things leveled out due to some complacency & penalties taken by the Blue Hens. Salisbury continued to compete and was able to avoid a shutout by scoring a goal in the final minute of the play in the 3rd period. The Hens face PSU Harrisburg next Friday night and travel to the Fairgrounds on Sunday to finish out their series with Salisbury.

            The team returns a seasoned group of veterans and was able to add a strong rookie class. The team is very excited to see where the rookies fit in to the lineup and how they will contribute to the team throughout the season. Joining the team are:  Forwards – Chris Mayville, Steven Palomba, Matt Vermont, Ryan D’Emillia, Austin Wetzel, & Justin Staropoli,  Defensemen – Phi Dao, Brandon D’Amato,  Ben Kahn, & Goaltender Gabriel Nadell.
