After a weekend away, the Blue Hens are returning to Fred Rust on Friday night to take on the West Chester University Golden Rams. They will head to West Chester on Saturday night for game two.
WCU previously faced Rutgers, splitting last weekend with a shootout win on Friday and a 4-0 loss on Saturday. WCU has won 4 games this season and lost 3, all of which have been on the road. Leading the team is forward James Davis, with 7 goals and 3 assists.
The Hens battled in Syracuse this past weekend, with a 3-2 loss on Friday and a 5-4 victory on Saturday. It was important for the team to come out of Syracuse with a victory, as they needed to bounce back and refocus after playing Rutgers.
The Hens really cleaned up their game and are looking like themselves again. There were a few big goals last weekend from Cole Zucker, who is currently leading the team in points. Redgate also had a strong weekend, scoring late in the third on Friday night. Goalie Dylan Troiano played a huge role in Saturday night’s success, with 42 saves. We’re hoping to see more from these leaders when we face WCU this weekend.
We saw some high-scoring games early in the Hen’s season and we’re hoping the trend continues this weekend. We’re also looking to continue strong defense, especially on the penalty kill. Offensively, we’re looking for some clean possession of the puck and strategic play toward the net. We have to play smart if we want to come out with a win.
UD’s player to watch this weekend is Junior forward Vinny Zingarelli, who scored the game-winning goal with seven minutes left in the game on Saturday. Zingarelli now has three goals under his belt this season. We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do this weekend.
Friday night is Military Night at Fred Rust. The player’s game worn customized military jerseys will be auctioned off via silent auction during the game. Please visit the University of Delaware Men’s D1 Booster club table to place a bid on a player’s jersey. Bids will start with a $60 dollar minimum and go up by increments of $20 dollars.
Please come out and help support our Military with the Puck drop at 7!
