West Chester Weekend Preview

Coming off a high this past weekend, the Blue Hens will be matching up against the West Chester University Golden Rams on Friday (2/10) and Saturday (2/11). Friday night’s game will be held at WCU, and Saturday the team’s will play at 5:15 at the Rust. Saturday will also be Senior Night and Fan Appreciation Night, since it is the last game of the regular season.

The Hens just recently swept the URI Rams. Friday night the game resulted in a 1-0 victory, with the lone goal scored by none other than the captain, John Redgate. The defense fought hard to keep the Rams out of their zone, and the “Great Wall of Troiano” managed to earn the team a shutout. Saturday afternoon, the teams matched up for the final game of the series. Delaware came out of a little flat, and the first period ended with a one point deficit for the Hens. In the second, the Rams scored two more goals, but finally Michael Nisky found the back of Rhode Island’s net, and that set the ball rolling for the boys. Back out for the third, the team found a way to tie up the game with goals scored by Shane Mullin and Vinny Zingarelli. The game went into overtime, and then a shootout. Max Freeman scored the winning goal for the team! The nailbiter weekend ended in favor for the Blue Hens, and they look to extend this five game win streak into this weekend.

The last time the Hens took on the Golden Rams, the team came out with a sweep. West Chester has lost their past few games, and they are looking to make a comeback. With a team that’s hungry for a win, Delaware will need to stay on their toes and stay strong for this last weekend matchup.

Player to watch for this weekend is Shane Mullin. During Saturday’s game, Shane had two assists and a goal. He was a key component to the team’s success this weekend. Mullin consistently makes his presence known on the ice, making the most out of every shift. His size gives him an advantage over his opponents. His stickhandling skills also give him a competitive edge as a forward. Shane is a crucial member on the forward line.

Be sure to come out to the Rust on Saturday to wish the team luck as they finish up their season! If you can’t make it to the game, be sure to keep up with all of the team’s social media pages for updates on the game!
