Delaware Ice Hockey

URI Weekend Preview

The Hens are on the road this weekend, and they’re heading up to Rhode Island. It will be an exciting weekend as the take on their rivals, the URI Rams. After this weekend’s series, Delaware moved up a spot in the ACHA rankings to spot #12. Rhode Island stands at spot #24.

Last weekend the team matched up against Rutgers, and earned themselves a sweep. They had a shootout win on Friday night, and a 5-3 win on Saturday afternoon. The team found success when they played five on five hockey. They capitalized on opportunities in front of the opponent’s net, and they held strong on the defense. There was some really great goaltending this weekend done by Dylan Troiano and Stephen East. One thing the team needs to minimize in order to come out with another sweep this weekend is their penalties. If they can stay out of the box, they will play their best. Our point leaders so far this season are John Redgate and Cole Zucker with 16 points, following them is Vinny Zingarelli with 12 and Shane Mullin with 12 points.

Rhode Island just came out of a weekend series against Liberty University. They lost both games while they were away. The Rams lost by a four point deficit on Friday night, and then lost in overtime on Saturday. Some players for our guys to watch out for this weekend are Ray Boudiette with 11 points, Matthew Kowash with 9, and Michael Pesola and Nick Centauro who both have 8 points.

Player to watch for the Hens this week is, with no surprise, captain, John Redgate. After scoring the game winning goal in the shootout Friday night and scoring two goals on Saturday, it is well deserved. His teammates could not stop raving about him this past weekend, and he has been a key component to the offense since the beginning. He uses his speed and insane stick skills to beat his opponents and remain untouchable. We look forward to see where the rest of the season takes him!

Since the team will be away this weekend, be sure to keep up with all of our social media pages for updates on the games. The Hens will be back at the Rust on Friday, October 28th, at 6:00 pm as they take on the West Chester University Golden Rams. We hope to see everyone there!
