URI Weekend Preview

Before this Thanksgiving break, the Hens are making one last stop up in New England to play long time rivals, the University of Rhode Island Rams. Friday night the teams will match up for the first game of the series at 7:00 in the Boss Arena, and on Saturday afternoon the teams will play at 4:00.

This past weekend, Delaware made their way to Lynchburg, Virginia to play the Liberty Flames. Both games resulted in a loss for the Hens. On Friday night, the Hens lost to the Flames 6-2. Delaware goals were scored by Dustin Rabinowitz and Michael Redgate. On Saturday night, UD lost 11-7. The team saw goals by Chris Mazzella, Brian Ostrander (2), Colin Emerich, Michael Nisky, Kevin Felice, and Cole Zucker. Despite the loss, the Hens played a strategic second period during Saturday’s game. They were able to catch up in goals to Liberty, and capitalized on opportunities in front of the Flames’ net. However, penalties called on the Hens throughout the rest of the game allowed for Liberty to score on the man advantage. Felice kept it short and sweet, and said, “If we can play like we did in the second period on Saturday, URI is no problem for us.”

The Rams swept NYU this past weekend. Their Friday night game resulted in a 4-3 win, and on Saturday a 6-2 win. In the past, URI has been one of Delaware’s greatest rivals. Last season the Hens swept the Rams both series played against them. The team will need to stay out of the box to ensure success this upcoming weekend. They will need to play smart defensively and create opportunities in front of the Rams’ net.

Player to watch for the weekend is Colin Emerich! Colin is a sophomore that has joined the team from the UD Division 2 team. Over the past few weeks, he has earned his spot on the forward line. So far this season Emerich has scored three goals and had two assists. His teammate, Kevin Felice said, “He’s starting to develop his scoring touch, and is my partner in crime on the penalty kill. He is a huge asset to our team, and we are looking forward to a big weekend from him.”

Keep up with the team while they are on the road this weekend by following their social media pages! When the team returns from Thanksgiving break, they have a lot of exciting things planned, so stay tuned for updates to come!
