During Fridays first period, the Blue Hens had to shake off some rust when facing West Chester. In the second game of the weekend double header, the Blue Hens did not wait till the second period to pounce on West Chester.
About half way through the first period, the Blue Hens offense came alive. Michael Conte started the Blue Hens scoring spree thanks to a nice pass from Matthew Santucci. Less than a minute later, Senior Matt Gumina broke through for the Blue Hens to give them the 2-0 lead.
A few minutes later, the Blue Hens young top line would extend the lead to three. John Redgate scored his fourth goal of the season, and took the title of the Blue Hens leading goal scorer.
At the end of the period, the Blue Hens would give up a goal to West Chester forward James Davis. At the beginning of the second, though, the Blue Hens would respond. John Brancaccio scored for the Blue Hens to make the game 4-1 early in the second.
Midway through the second, the Blue Hens top line would strike again. This time it was Cole Zucker who scored to make the game 5-1. With the goal, Zucker tied Redgate with four goals for the season.
The Blue Hens defense held firm for the rest of the game. Just like their last contest against West Chester, once they gained the big lead, they sat back and waited for West Chester to come to them. West Chester would score again, but the final score was still 5-2.
The Blue Hens got their first win at the Fred Rust arena. They moved to 3-1 on the season, with their only loss coming against second ranked Robert Morris. The Blue Hens offense has scored three or more goals in each of those contests.
On October 24th and 25th, the Blue Hens will face Rutgers in a weekend double header. The Blue Hens will host Rutgers on the 24th and the puck is expected to drop at 7:00 PM. The Blue Hens will then travel to Rutgers University for the second half of their weekend double header. The puck for that game is expected to drop at 8:30 PM.
