Team Gathers for End of the Season Banquet

The Blue Hens had their end of the year banquet last Thursday night, April 23rd, to finish off the 2014-2015 season. It was a special occasion for the team, as this will be the last time the full team is together.

Awards were given out to the members of the team that made a special contribution to the team. Those award winners included:

Outstanding Forward – John Redgate
Leading Scorer – John Redgate
Outstanding Defenseman – JC Brancaccio
Intensity Award – Vincent Zingarelli
Player’s Player Award – Joe Bastone
Most Improved Player – Nick Ustaski
Rookie of the Year – Cole Zucker
Most Valuable Player – Dylan Troiano
Special Service Award – Nick Matarese

It was also a great occasion to give the Senior class the credit they deserve. They were the last of the National Championship team in 2012, and provided leadership and tenacity to the Blue Hens this year. The Senior class includes Captain Steve Braun, Marcello DeAngelis, Ryan Pate, Matt Gumina, JC Brancaccio, Gabriel Colona and Noble Tucker.

It was also a great occasion to talk about the future of the team. The captains of next year’s team were announced, and include two of next year’s Senior class.

Leo Skehan was named captain for next years Blue Hens. He was a consistent performer for the Blue Hens, starting in 29 games and cashing in on 5 goals, one of which was a game winner.

One of the two assistant captains next year will be Nick Ustaski. Ustaski was named the most improved player this year, and his size on the blue line will be greatly appreciated next year.

The other assistant captain for next year’s team will be John Redgate. He was the team’s leading scorer, and was also named the team’s outstanding forward.
