Stony Brook Weekend Preview

This weekend, the Hens will face their rival, Stony Brook University, for the second time this season. The weekend series will begin on Friday, February 8 at 6:25 pm in UD’s Fred Rust Arena. Friday night will hold the re-scheduled UDance game, supporting the B+ Foundation. The second game of the weekend will be on Saturday at 5:45 pm in UD’s Gold Arena, and it will spotlight two other UD RSOs, PROUD and CCI.

Friday’s UDance game, which was originally scheduled for earlier in January, will support one of the biggest RSO’s on campus, UDance and the B+ Foundation! UDance is a year-long effort to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer, and it culminates in a 12-hour dance marathon that will take place on Sunday, March 24 from 9 am – 9 pm this year in the Big Bob on campus. At Friday’s game, Program Development Manager of The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, Chelsea Hiemstra, will be speaking. To contribute to the cause and help the team meet their fundraising goal, please consider making a donation to the their UDance page: https://www.udancede.org/bpos_teampage.aspx?eventtag=ud2019&teamid=1896&mode=.

Saturday’s game will start out with a puck drop by representatives from CCI (Canine Companions for Independence) and PROUD (Puppy Raisers of The University of Delaware). CCI is a non-profit organization that provides trained assistance dogs to children and adults with physical disabilities, at no cost. PROUD also works with dogs, but focuses on raising puppies for The Seeing Eye, which prepares them for their futures as seeing eye dogs for the blind. Both clubs are loved by everyone on UD’s campus, and finals week would absolutely be significantly more stressful without them!

Back in December, Delaware swept the Seawolves in their two-game weekend. Entering this weekend, the Hens are coming off of three wins from last weekend; two against Robert Morris University Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday, and the third against Duquesne University on Sunday. After a such successes last weekend, we can only hope the team can keep up the good work for the upcoming games, especially since Stony Brook is also coming off of multiple wins. Last weekend, the Seawolves faced New York University, and took both games.

This week’s player to watch is #20 Ian Anderson! In his third and final season on the team, this senior has truly proven himself as a contributor on the team. Ian’s teammates have noticed how good he’s been playing on the power play recently, as well as his “offensive touch that makes him a threat in our o zone.” We wish Ian the best in his last games as a Blue Hen!
