Senior Spotlight: Ivan Sidoriak

After over 100 games played as a Blue Hen, number 20 Ivan Sidoriak has finished his hockey career and will be retiring his University of Delaware sweater. Ivan is known on the ice as one of the Blue Hen’s toughest defensemen. As a hockey player he would describe himself as smart, tough, and selfless. Ivan is a global enterprise management major from right in Wilmington, DE. Number 20’s hockey career started in Harrington Delaware at a learn to skate. He then participated in a learn to play program and moved his way up in the sport. The first hockey team he ever played for was the Delaware Stars. When asked about his favorite team memory, going to nationals this year was the immediate answer.

Since Ivan was originally from Delaware, choosing to come to the University was a no brainer. He said “I chose Delaware hockey because of how close to home it is and its great reputation.” Ivan’s greatest hockey achievement thus far has been winning the “Rookie of the year” award at a University of Delaware hockey banquet. Just like many of his teammates, his favorite team to play against in the ACHA is the Stony Brook Seawolves. The team and the fans can always count on those games being exciting. During one’s time at college there is so much learned about life. Something Ivan learned, and is advice he is passing on to current teammates is to come with a good attitude everyday and always give 100% effort in everything you do. Ivan also had the role of being a captain, along with teammate Dominic Guido, this past season. As a captain, it is important to be a strong leader on and off the ice. When asked about his role on the team and his leadership strategy as a captain he said “I was always keeping everyone focused on what needed to be accomplished in order to succeed and win hockey games.”

Ivan’s biggest inspiration is Claude Giroux. “He is a great hockey player and a great person and leader,” he said. The plans for the future include finding a job locally for the time being. Although we will miss seeing number 20 on the ice next season, we look forward to everything that is to come in his future. We wish Ivan Sidoriak the best of luck in his future endeavors and can’t wait to see what he will accomplish!
