Rutgers Weekend Preview

Everyone get excited, the Blue Hens are back home Friday night at 7 to take on the Rutgers Ice Knights! The team’s record so far this season is 14-1, and they are looking to extend their wins this weekend.

The Hens just came off of a weekend sweep against the West Chester University Golden Rams. Friday night the team won 3-0, and Saturday afternoon they won 1-0. Delaware found it difficult to get past the Rams’ goalie, but they had many opportunities on net. The team found success on defense, and controlled the puck for the majority of both games. One thing the team will need to work on going into this weekend is minimizing penalties. The Hens find more success when they play five on five hockey, so they will need to maintain their composure throughout the weekend. As of now our point leaders are John Redgate (23), Cole Zucker (22), and Vinny Zingarelli (15).

Two weekends ago, Rutgers caused an upset when they swept Stony Brook. However, this past weekend, they split the series with Rhode Island. Throughout the years, Rutgers has become a more competitive team for us to match up against, so this weekend should be exciting.

Player to watch this weekend is freshman, defender, Jakob DeFares. He has been an increasingly crucial man on our defensive line. This past weekend, he assisted all three goals on Friday night, and helped keep the Rams out of our zone on Saturday. He has shown so much potential as a player, and we look forward to seeing so much more from him throughout the season.

Friday night is “Military Night” at the Rust, and the team will be sporting camo jerseys. These jerseys will be auctioned off in a silent auction throughout the game, so be sure to make your bid at the booster club table. All of the proceeds will benefit the Delaware Veterans Coalition. Hope to see all of our fans there, but as always keep up with our social media for updates on all things Delaware hockey!
