Rutgers Weekend 2 Preview

This weekend, the Blue Hens will be battling the Rutgers University Ice Knights. On Friday the teams will play at the Rust at 6:15, and on Saturday, the teams will make their way to the ProSkate Arena for a 3:30 game in New Jersey.

This past weekend the Hens suffered two losses against the Liberty University Flames. On Friday night, the score was 8-5, and on Saturday the score was 7-4. Blue Hen goal scorers for the weekend were Cam Piorkowski, Shane Mullin, Pierce Lamberton, Chris Mazzella (2), Michael Nisky (2), Mike Redgate, and Ethan Docking.

Rutgers is coming off a series split against the Naval Academy. Which is how the previous UD vs. Rutgers series went earlier this season. The Hens beat the Ice Knights when they played them away, but fell to them at home, short by one goal. In order to be successful this weekend, it is imperative that the team stays out of the box and plays with five men on the ice for as much of the game as possible. When playing Liberty, Delaware took too many penalties and the Flames were able to capitalize on almost every power play opportunity they had. The Hens will also need to tighten up their power play so that when given that man advantage, they will be able to find the back of the net.

Player to watch for the weekend is #39 Pierce Lamberton! Pierce just made his debut back with the Hens during the Liberty series. Lamberton is an enforcer on the forward line and makes his presence known. Since his career start as a freshman, Pierce has always been a key forward for the Hens. During his first weekend back, he earned himself two points with a goal and an assist. The team is excited to have him back on the ice with them!

On Friday night, the team will be celebrating their annual Police and Firefighter Night at the Rust. All servicemen and women are invited to attend.

Be sure to keep up with the team through their social media pages.
