This weekend the Blue Hens will be facing Robert Morris University of Pennsylvania Colonials at the Rust on Friday at 6:15 and Saturday at 5:25. It’s a big weekend for the Hens, not only because of the games, but there is a lot of exciting events happening. The team is celebrating their annual Alumni Weekend, and there will be special events held just for the retired Blue Hens. On Friday night, it is “Paws for a Cause” night at the rink, and the team has paired up with Canine Companions for Independence, otherwise known as CCI, to help showcase the importance of the seeing eye dogs. On Saturday, is the team’s annual “B+ Night” in honor of their hero, Christian, and UDance, which is quickly approaching on March 11th. Representatives from UDance will be at the game collecting donations that will go back to the team’s page. This past weekend, Delaware split a series against Rutgers. On Friday night, they lost at home 4-1, but when they traveled to New Jersey, they beat the Ice Knights 3-2. Goals for the weekend were scored by #8 Cam Piorkowski, #28 Cole Zucker, #15 Shane Mullin, and #22 Michael Nisky. On Saturday afternoon, the team came out with more energy to play than they did on Friday. The home game was lackluster, and the team knew that going into Saturday, they needed to find their groove to come out with a win.
RMU is coming off a one game win against John Carroll University. So far this season, the Colonials have won 15 games. Last season, the Hens swept the Colonials, and are looking to do the same this weekend. As always, in order to find success this weekend, the Hens must stay out of the box. It is crucial to Delaware Hockey to keep with their game with five men on the ice. The great Wayne Gretzky once said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” so the Blue Hens must take advantage of every opportunity in front of the Colonials’ net.
Player to watch for the weekend is captain, Cole Zucker! Zuck has been an important player since his freshman year with the Hens. He currently leads the team in points, having 43 coming from 13 goals and 30 assists. Aside from being a skilled forward, Cole has been a role model for the younger guys on the team by maintaining good grades and being a leader on and off the ice. As his last season with UD comes to a close, we look forward to see what he has left in him during his last few games!
Be sure to stay tuned with the Hens during the last few weekends of the season. Follow the team on all social media platforms.
