The Blue Hens will spend the weekend in Rhode Island, playing the URI Rams Friday and Saturday night.
UD was victorious last weekend against West Chester University, with an 8-0 sweep on Friday and a 2-0 win on Saturday. The weekend’s success can be attributed to a lot of good, clean passing, and persistence in front of the net, as well as strong goaltending that allowed for two shutout wins. Stephen East started in goal for the first time in his career on Saturday night at WCU, recording his first career win and shutout.
The Rams are also coming off of a successful weekend against Drexel, beating them 7-3 on Friday, and 4-2 on Saturday. URI has excelled in scoring this season, averaging 4.2 goals per game. Senior forward Robbie Buehrer is currently leading the team, with 9 goals and 4 assists. Buehrer had a successful weekend against Drexel, leading the team to victory on Saturday with a goal and two assists.
This weekend should be a battle, as both teams are coming in confident after last weekend. Delaware’s defense will have to come out ready to play if they want to stop high-scoring URI. The Rams have also been unwavering on the penalty kill, so we will have to match that this weekend in order to stay ahead. We are also counting on a continuation of strong goaltending from our team.
Delaware player to watch this weekend is sophomore forward Andrew Corapi, who put the puck away with 15 seconds left in the second period on Friday night against WCU. Corapi has 3 goals and 2 assists this season. We’re hoping to see more from him this weekend and through the rest of the season!
This weekend the team will be on the road, but don’t forget to keep up with the Hens on twitter, @UDHockey , and come out to the next home game on Friday, November 6 at Fred Rust!
