The Blue Hens are on the road this weekend, taking on long-time rivals Liberty University at the newly renovated LaHaye Ice Center. The weekend kicks off with a sold-out midnight game on Friday, and then continues Saturday night.
Liberty is coming off of a tough weekend, losing two consecutive home games to Stony Brook. They have been struggling lately, losing their last six games. Overall, they are coming into the weekend with 3 wins and 8 losses this season. Leading the team in points (11) is forward Robert Ward, who has two goals and 10 assists under his belt. Following Ward is forward Grant Garvin, with 8 goals and 3 assists. The team is looking to get out of their rut this weekend as they host the Hens.
Delaware fought hard last Friday night, as they took on #11 LVC for Breast Cancer night at Fred Rust Arena. They lost in a shootout, making the final score 2-3. Redgate and Margolis both scored in the first period, and Lamberton put one away during the shootout. The team moved the puck and played a fast and physical game, but ultimately just could not put it in the net. This ends the Hens’ recent winning streak, but they’re hoping to bounce back at Liberty this weekend.
We’re hoping to see more action in front of the net this weekend from Delaware. The team needs to create more chances and put the puck away. We have seen this team’s capabilities through several high scoring games this season. We’re looking for the team to keep their legs moving and play a full and consistent two games of hockey at Liberty. This weekend will also be a challenge for the newer players on the team, as they have not yet experienced playing in front of a sold-out crowd. They will have to adjust in order to contribute to the team’s success.
The player to watch this weekend is Captain Leo Skehan. The team leader has consistently worked to create chances in front of the net throughout the season, with 12 assists under his belt. We’re hoping his ability to set up scoring opportunities will be a key element to success this weekend.
Don’t forget to keep up with the team while they’re away, watch the game on the Liberty University hockey website for some high quality picture, @UDHockey on twitter, and come out to the next home game on November 20th!
