The Hens are making their way down south this weekend to play the Liberty University Flames! Puck drop for Friday and Saturday night will be at 7:00. Last season the teams matched up four times, and Delaware came out on top three out of the four games.
This past weekend the Blue Hens played in a tournament in Buffalo, New York. The team came out 2-1. During the first game of the tournament, the Hens battled Mercyhurst University for an OT win. Goals were scored by Ian Anderson, Mike Zidansek, Cole Zucker, and Michael Nisky with the game winner. Saturday afternoon, the Hens didn’t have as pretty of an outcome, and lost 6-4 to the University of Buffalo. Delaware goals were scored by Shane Mullin, Chris Mazzella, Kevin Felice, and Nisky. Sunday the team brought their A game, and beat Illinois State 7-2. Felice (2), Zidansek, Mazzella (2), Colin Emerich and Ethan Docking were the goal scorers for the matinee. Brian Ostrander said of the weekend, “We came in wanting six points, and although we only got four, we were able to end the weekend on a strong note winning 7-2. This win gave us some momentum going into the big weekend against Liberty.”
Liberty recently split a series with Stony Brook University. They have been 9-5 so far this season, and are a notoriously skilled team. The Hens know how the Flames play, and have been in close competition with them for a while. In order to be successful against them, Delaware must play a smart and full sixty minutes, take advantage of every opportunity given to them in front of the Flames’ net, and hold down a strong defense. An interesting part of Liberty’s game is the atmosphere it is in. They have a high intensity crowd in a big rink, and it will be an adjustment for the newer Blue Hens. The Flames definitely have the home advantage.
Player to watch for the weekend is Kevin Felice! During the tournament, he came out of his shell and scored three goals! Felice has been creating a name for himself on the forward line, and is continuously creating opportunities for the Hens. He has had four assists so far this season, and helps make things happen on the ice. Kevin has also been a key component to success on the penalty kill. Look out for more from #16 as the season progresses!
Be sure to keep up with the team this weekend, and all the updates to come during the two games. The Hens are on the road for the month of November, but will be back December 1st and 2nd for a series against the University of Pittsburgh, so stay tuned for more to come on that weekend.
