Blue Hen Hockey returns to Newark, Delaware and the Rust! This weekend sees a match up between the Blue Hens and the Liberty University Flames. The Blue Hens, as of January 25th, are ranked #17 in the ACHA rankings.
After a rough one this past weekend against Stony Brook, the Blue Hens are looking to bounce back against a Liberty team that is coming off a sweep of Oakland University. Currently, Liberty sits at a record of 19-10 and is ranked #21 in the ACHA rankings.
Last time these two teams met, they split the weekend while playing at Liberty. This weekend’s match up is at the Rust, which is where the Blue Hens thrive. Delaware is 8-2 at home this season, and they look to improve that record even more this weekend.
This will not be an easy task for the Blue Hens with Liberty playing their best hockey down the stretch, winning 3 of their last 4. Liberty plays aggressive, smash mouth hockey which is something that the Blue Hens are used to playing themselves.
The key to this game is for the Blue Hens to play controlled, disciplined hockey. Delaware NEEDS to stay out of the penalty box, which is what has plagued them over the past 2 weeks.
The player to watch this weekend is Senior Captain John Redgate. Redgate leads the team in points and has been the leader of this young squad since the day he put the “C” on his sweater. When times look hard is when it’s time for the captain to show up and lead is team to greener pastures.
This weekend’s match up between the Delaware Blue Hens and the Liberty University Flames will take place Friday at 9:15pm and Saturday at 5:15pm. During Saturdays game, the Delaware Blue Hens will be holding a special, Cub Scout Night. For any additional questions or information, contact leahedel@udel.edu.
The Blue Hens will also host Alabama this weekend on Sunday, January 29th at 7:00pm. Look out for an Alabama Weekend Preview coming in the next few days.
