Liberty Home Weekend Preview

The Hens will be matching up against the #13 Liberty University Flames this weekend at the Rust. Friday night puck drop is at 6:15, and Saturday, for Youth Hockey Night, puck drop is at 5:25.

After an exciting weekend in Newark, UD split the series against Stony Brook, and both games went into overtime. The goal scorers throughout the weekend were Cole Zucker (2), Shane Mullin, Chris Mazzella, Brian Ostrander, Michael Nisky, and Colin Emerich. Friday night Mazzella scored the winning goal during overtime, and on Saturday the Hens fell short just as the extra period was coming to a close. Despite the loss, the team played two incredible games. The energy radiating from the ice into the stands was high, and they kept the crowd on their toes. The Blue Hens took advantage of all the opportunities presented in front of the Seawolves’ net. They also remained strong on defense, and had chemistry in their passing.

The Flames are coming into the weekend off a sweep against the Rutgers Ice Knights. Friday night LU won 5-0, and Saturday 7-2. Earlier in the season, the Liberty swept Delaware down at the LaHaye Ice Center. In order to be successful this weekend, the Hens must keep their momentum going. By continuing to take as many shots as possible, creating a wall on the blue line and continuing to gel as a team, they will put up an exciting fight against the Flames!

Player to watch for the weekend is freshman, defenseman, Harrison Chuma! Starting to find his stride with the team, Harrison has become a key part of the defensive line lately. He is in the right place at the right time and makes some big hits to keep the opponent out of the Hens’ zone. Chuma makes his presence on the ice known, so the Flames better lookout!

As always, stay in touch with the team through their social media pages.
