Delaware Ice Hockey

Drexel Weekend Preview

For the first time in a few years, the Hens will be playing the Drexel University Dragons. The games will be held at the Fred Rust both Friday at 6:15 and Saturday at 5:25. On Friday night the team will be welcoming the Delaware Ducks Squirt B Team, and on Saturday the team will be hosting their annual Cub Scout Night. All packs that would like to attend are encouraged to reserve their tickets in advance by contacting kaden@udel.edu.

The Hens just recently played the URI Rams, and the weekend resulted in a split. Both games went into overtime. On Friday night, Delaware took the W. Starting off the game behind, the team was able to catch up. The game was tied up the entire third period, which lead to the extra time. #16 Kevin Felice scored the OT game winner shortly into the five minutes. The first three goals were scored by #26 Brian Ostrander, #15 Shane Mullin, and #13 Chris Mazzella. On Saturday, the Hens suffered a tough loss. Less than a minute into the game, captain Cole Zucker put Delaware on the board. Rhode Island tied it up just at the end of the first. In the second, rookie, Jack Zimmer, put the team back in the lead, but URI just caught back up. The Rams came out victorious during the overtime period.

This weekend will be the first weekend back for the Dragons. Their most recent games were against John Carroll University, and it resulted in two losses for Drexel. Having not played the Dragons since 2015, the Hens should be ready to bring the heat on the ice.

The player to watch for this weekend is Jack Zimmer! Zimmer has really come into his own on the ice. At the start of his Blue Hen career, he suffered a concussion. Once recovered, he hit the ice strong. He has been an important player on the defensive line. Jack also scored his first goal this past

weekend! Aside from that, he seemed to be in the right position to create many scoring opportunities for the Hens. The team looks forward to what Jack has to bring to rink this weekend!
