D1 Winning Streak Continues…

The UD Hockey Men’s Division 1 has started the 2013-2014 season strong.  The team has fought hard and at times rallied — which lead to sweeps of rivals U.S. Navy, West Virginia University and Stony Brook University.

The September 20 home opener 7-3 win over U.S. Navy was just the beginning.  On September 21, D1 traveled to Annapolis.  Navy was more prepared, but D1 fought hard and won 3-2 in overtime.

Next, the team headed to Morgantown for two games versus the Mountaineers of West Virginia University, winning 3-1 and 6-3.

Last weekend’s match-up on Long Island against Stony Brook University, showed the tenacity of the D1 team with a 4-3 win in overtime on Saturday.  Things weren’t looking good in game two on Sunday.  The team found itself down 3-0 at the end of the 1st period. But with a strong team effort, the Blue Hens came back to win 4-3 in regulation.

Now with a 6-0 start to the season, the D1 team heads to the ACHA National Showcase in Strongville, Ohio next weekend looking to keep the streak alive.  At the Showcase, the Blue Hens will face Davenport, John Carroll and Robert Morris, IL.
