The Hens are heading across the country for a three game weekend in the Centennial State! Thursday night the team will match up against the University of Colorado, Boulder. Friday and Saturday night, the team will be hosted by Colorado State University Rams for a series.
This past weekend the Hens were in Virginia, and played against Liberty University. The teams split the series, and Delaware came out with a 4-2 win on Friday night. It was a big weekend for both teams because they were the top two spots in the ESCHL rankings. The first game of the series was intense. There was a lot of great plays made, and Delaware was able to score two shorthanded goals. The Hens worked well together on the ice and had great communication. There was some incredible goaltending, and really great defense. On Saturday, things went a little different for the team. During the first and second periods, there were a lot of penalties called on both teams, and the Hens couldn’t seem to find their ground. They went into the third down by one, and Liberty scored early on in the period. They were able to come out and tie up the game, playing the Delaware hockey we all love to watch. However, after getting into some more penalty trouble, they fell 5-3.
In order to be successful this weekend, the Hens will have to be more mindful of penalties and keep their heads in the right mindsets. They will need to continue their success on passing, and stay strong on defense. A place where the Hens thrive is their special teams. They do well on penalty kills, and are strong on the power play as well.
Colorado, Boulder is a tough team to play in the ACHA. They recently came off a sweep against the University of Arizona. The Buffaloes are a part of the WSCHL. Ranked higher than the Hens, this game will be a good test for the team, and hopefully help them move up in the rankings if they come out with a win.
Colorado State will be another exciting two games. Last season, the Hens swept the Rams at the Fred Rust. CSU just came off of a three game weekend against University of Arizona and Arizona State. They lost all three games, but their final game was a shootout loss.
This week’s player to watch is goalie, Dylan Troiano! He played an incredible two games this past weekend, and really was a key part of the Friday night win. Making amazing saves one after another, he deserves a spotlight! After the game on Friday night, the ESCHL took to Twitter, and tweeted a video of one of his exciting saves from the night. As of now, he has a .920 save percentage and has made 310 saves this season. Dylan will definitely be an important part of the team’s success this weekend, much like he is every other weekend for the Hens.
