The team heads to upstate New York this weekend for a tournament. On Friday night, in the first round of the tournament, the team will be playing Mercyhurst University at 8:00 in the Northtown Center at Amherst. On Saturday, they will be playing the University of Buffalo at 4:00 at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion in Niagara Falls, NY. The final games of the tournament will be played on Sunday, with more information to come based on the outcomes of the first two rounds.
This past weekend the Hens played a series against Stony Brook University and fell short in both games. On Saturday Night, the boys suffered a 4-0 loss, and Sunday afternoon, a 4-1 loss. The team put up a tough fight during both games, but weren’t able to capitalize on goal scoring opportunities. Freshman defenseman, Harrison Good, mentioned, “We didn’t get the outcome we wanted, but we know at this point we can play with the top ranked teams. We have to bring the high intensity pace to every game.”
The Hens and Mercyhurst met up two years ago in the first round of the National Tournament. The Hens came out on top with a double overtime victory against the Lakers. So far this season, Mercyhurst has been 6-3. They have played against some of the competition that will be attending this tournament. For the next round of the tournament, the team will play University of Buffalo. The team has not played against them recently, so they need to be aware of the new competition. So far this season, the Bulls have been 3-5, and have played against some of the same teams the Hens have.
Player to watch for the weekend is Brian Ostrander! Brian has made his presence on the ice known scoring two goals so far, and three assists. Good said about his teammate, “He’s a quick freshman that’s very crafty with the puck. He’s an unselfish player who makes things happen for his line when he’s out there. He’s a point scorer and a hard worker. It would be wrong to sleep on him.”
Be sure to keep up with the team this weekend, and all the updates to come on their final game of the tournament on Sunday. The Hens are on the road for the month of November, but will be back December 1st and 2nd for a series against the University of Pittsburgh, so stay tuned for more to come on that weekend.
