Blue Hens Prevail In Last Game of Regular Season

The Blue Hens finished their regular season on a high note. They were able to hold off a third period rally by Rutgers to win 4-3.

It did not take the Blue Hens long to find the back of the net. Only four minutes into the game, Junior Matt Santucci buried his 4th goal of the season to give the Blue Hens the early 1-0 lead.

However, Rutgers were able to retaliate with a goal of their own. Rutgers star Ted Udelsman was able to find James Felice, who scored to make the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

The Blue Hens got off to another fast start in the second. Only 1:34 into the second period, Matthew Gumina scored his 7th goal of the season to put the Blue Hens up 2-1.

The Blue Hens were able to avoid the penalty box in the second period, and keep their 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission. Their season long penalty woes would continue, though, in the third period, where they had four penalties.

Blue Hen John Redgate was able to score to make the game 3-1. The sophomore ends the season leading the Blue Hens in points with 30. Line mates Cole Zucker and Max Freeman both ended up with 29 points.

Blue Hen Alex Guerere was able to continue his hot streak with another goal to make the score 4-1. He has three goals in his last four games and was crucial in his teams win against Rhode Island.

Rutgers then attempted a last second comeback. With five minutes left, Kevin Fitch scored his 3rd goal of the season to make it a 4-2 game. 16:42 into the third period, CJ Maksut made the score 4-3. The Blue Hens were able to fend off Rutgers for the 4-3 win.

The Blue Hens earned the third seed in the ESCHL Playoffs. They will play against the sixth seed Rutgers and the game will take place at the Rutgers University Middletown Sports Complex.
