This upcoming weekend the Blue Hens will be facing the NYU Violets for the first time ever! The Violets have recently made their debut into the ACHA, and are heading to Newark this weekend. The teams will play at the Fred Rust Friday night at 7:00 and at the Gold Arena (behind the Rust) Saturday at noon.
This past weekend the Hens swept a series against the Naval Academy. Friday night the team took a trip down to Annapolis. The team came out with a 3-0 win with goals scored by Colin Emerich, Shane Mullin and Brian Ostrander. On Saturday, the Hens celebrated their home opener with a 4-2 win against the Midshipmen. Goals were scored by Cole Zucker (2), Harrison Good, and Chris Mazzella. The team will be looking to extend their four game win streak into this weekend. Mike Zidansek said, “We were satisfied with the sweep, but not with the effort. Next weekend we need to play a full 60 minutes.”
NYU played their first games as part of the ACHA in a series against West Chester. The Violets swept the series with a 5-3 win on Friday, and a 4-1 win on Saturday. This team shows promise as a new team, and the Hens will have to be aware of the wildcard being thrown their way.
Player to watch this weekend is Chris Mazzella! So far this season, Chris has 4 goals and an assist under his belt. He has been a key player in the forward line since his start as a Blue Hen last season. He consistently creates opportunities in front of the net, and capitalizes on most of them. We look forward to see more from Chris as the season moves on!
Friday night is “Hockey Goes Greek” at the Rust! All Greek chapters there will have the chance to get all the donations collected at the door given to their chapter’s philanthropy if they have the highest game attendance. So remember to bring a dollar and your student ID for a chance to win! On Saturday, the team would like to invite all parents to join them at the rink in honor of Parent’s Weekend on campus!
As always, to keep up with all things hockey related, follow the team on all of their social media platforms and never miss a thing!
